Minsk to co-host 2021 world hockey championship

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)'s Annual Congress on Friday named Minsk and Riga as the venues of the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

The joint bid of the capitals of Belarus and Latvia earned 55 votes while their only rival, Finland, got 52 votes.

The event is scheduled to take place between May 7 and 23. The semifinals, the third-place game and the final are expected to take place in Minsk.

Riga hosted the hockey world championship in 2006 and Minsk in 2014.
