Belarusian Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynaw suggested that the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) should have a more active stance on the issue of human rights.
He made the remark in his speech at a meeting of NAM member states' foreign ministers in Tehran on September 3, the Belarusian foreign ministry's press office said.
Mr. Martynaw reportedly stressed that NAM members devoted as much attention to the issue as other countries.
The organization should become an important factor in considering the issue of human rights and should have a uniform stance on the matter, the Belarusian minister said.
Mr. Martynaw thanked NAM member states for backing a resolution on human rights proposed by Belarus at the 61st session of the UN General Assembly.
The Belarusian minister, who was elected deputy chairman of the Tehran meeting, met with his Cuban counterpart, Filipe Roque, on the sidelines of the forum to discuss further cooperation within the organization and the development of Belarusian-Cuban ties in various spheres, the press office said.
The meeting will draw to a close on September 4. //BelaPAN
