Belarus will continue pursuing a multi-vector foreign policy as an independent state in 2008, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on January 11 at a government conference on domestic and foreign policies, according to the Belarusian leader’s press office.
Under discussion were priorities in Belarus’ economic development, the country’s further integration into the international system of economic relations, and measures to increase exports and find new markets for Belarusian products, the press office said.
Participants at the conference also discussed steps to “strengthen ties with the country’s major trading partners, attract foreign direct investments and create favorable conditions for the operation of major foreign investors in the republic on the basis of the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation,” the press office said.
Mr. Lukashenka reportedly set the government a number of specific tasks aimed at stepping up Belarus’ external economic activities and improving the living standards of the country’s citizens.
