Russian Orthodox Church set to have its own radio station in Belarus
The Belarusian Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church plans to have its own radio station.
A concept for the station’s programming has already been devised, Andrey Aleshka, a lawyer at the Exarchate’s Minsk Eparchial Office, told BelaPAN.
According to him, the station would cover the most worrying issues and various aspects of the life of people and Belarusian society in general, including family and marriage issues, school education, the demographic situation, and healthcare. “Since this electronic media outlet will be Orthodox, all these issues will be covered from the Christian moral and ethical viewpoint,” Mr. Aleshka said.
At a meeting in late January, the top Orthodox clergyman in Belarus, Minsk and Slutsk Metropolitan Filaret, asked Alyaksandr Lukashenka for assistance in setting up the radio station. The Belarusian leader then said that such a station might be launched some day.
According to Mr. Aleshka, the Exarchate currently works on papers to get its station registered in accordance with the established procedure.
