Foreign Minister Martynaw meets with new UN resident coordinator
Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynaw on June 19 received Antonius Bernardus Broek, the newly appointed UN resident coordinator/UNDP resident representative in Belarus.
Messrs. Martynaw and Broek discussed priority areas for future cooperation between the Belarusian government and the UN Office in Belarus, reported the foreign ministry’s press office.
Belarus expects UN institutions and agencies to help the country study and apply modern energy efficiency and energy conservation technologies, attract foreign investments, and dealing with the long-term aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the press office quoted Mr. Martynaw as saying.
Also under discussion were Belarus’ proposals aimed at making alternative and renewable energy technologies more accessible to developing countries with economies in transition, and improving the coordination of international efforts to combat human trafficking, the press office said. //BelaPAN
