Malady Front youth opposition group to get registered in Lithuania
Malady Front, an opposition youth group which has no legal status in Belarus, plans to get registered in Lithuania in the near future, a member told BelaPAN.
According to Kiryl Atamanchyk, the group plans to submit its charter and other papers needed for registration to Lithuania’s National Register. “The registration process is successful, there are nearly no obstacles to registration,” he said. “This is yet another step toward legal status for our organization. Registration is also important for establishing international relations, which will be needed in the future.”
Malady Front has made five attempts to obtain registration with the Belarusian justice ministry but to no avail.
The absence of legal status has allowed Belarusian authorities to prosecute many of its members under an article of the Criminal Code that penalizes “acting on behalf of an unregistered organization.”
The group was registered in the Czech Republic earlier this year.
