More than 300 Lithuanian nationals staying in Belarus have registered with the country’s embassy in Minsk to vote in Lithuania’s October 12 general elections.
Registered Lithuanian voters will be able to cast ballots in the embassy or the Lithuanian Consulate General in Hrodna between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Kristina Pakonyte, spokeswoman for the embassy, told BelaPAN.
As many as 141 seats in Lithuania’s Seimas (parliament) are to be filled as a result of the elections. Seventy-one members will be elected in single-member districts and 70 will be elected in the nationwide vote using proportional representation by party lists.
A referendum on whether to keep open the Soviet-era Ignalina nuclear power station close to the Belarusian border also will be held on October 12.
