American lawyer Zeltser transferred to correctional facility in Mahilyow
American lawyer Emanuel Zeltser has been transferred to the correctional facility number 11 in Mahilyow on the night between November 11 and 12 to serve his time, the defense counsel, Dzmitry Harachka, told BelaPAN.
Mr. Harachka said that he had managed to deliver warm clothes for his client, but not medications.
The American lawyer's secretary is expected to be transferred to a correctional institution in Homyel, he said.
Mr. Harachka is planning to meet with Mr. Zeltser on Friday.
Mr. Zeltser's brother earlier expressed fear over the safety of his relative in prison. He said that an attempt on his life was being plotted.
On August 11, Mr. Zeltser was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of "attempted industrial espionage" and the use of fake documents. His secretary, Russian national Vladlena Funk, was sentenced to one year in prison on the same charges. The Minsk City Court held the trial behind closed doors and few details of the case were disclosed to the public.
The pair were arrested upon their arrival in Minsk in March and put into the detention center of KGB.
The Supreme Court of Belarus upheld the prison terms on October 31.
The 54-year-old Zeltser suffers a very ill health.
