Team of Belarusian Party of Communists win annual opposition-organized soccer tournament
A team representing the Belarusian Party of Communists (BPC) won the 13th Freedom Cup, a soccer tournament featuring prominent opposition politicians and journalists that took place in Minsk on August 1.
Taking part in the tournament, which honored late politician Henadz Karpenka, also were teams representing the Belarusian Association of Journalists, the Belarusian Popular Front, the United Civic Party, the Movement for Freedom and the founding committee for the Belarusian Social Democratic Party “Svaboda.”
The BPC team defeated the United Civic Party’s squad in the final. The Belarusian Popular Front’s team, who won the tournament last year, finished third.
