Court dismisses administrative offense case against opposition activist in Mazyr

The Mazyr District Court has dismissed an administrative offense case against a local opposition activist, Pavel Nazdra.

This past month, the local military recruitment office charged Mr. Nazdra with violating military registration rules, saying that the man failed to promptly notify the office that he had changed his place of work.

The court ruled that Mr. Nazdra had been punished for the offense in July 2008 when the opposition activist was charged with failing to report his dismissal at a company to the military recruitment office. Mr. Nazdra then paid a fine of 70,000 rubels (around $30).

“Perhaps, they just want to punish me,” Mr. Nazdra told BelaPAN. “I was showed the military recruitment office’s charge sheet in July, without being told about by my rights, which was an offense. Moreover, they attempted to punish me twice for one and the same offense. A curious thing is that as soon as the trial ended, I was given a summons to appear at the military recruitment office. Perhaps, there will be one more court hearing.”
