Foreign ministries of Belarus, Germany hold consultations

The Belarusian and German foreign ministries held a round of consultations on Thursday to discuss the development of bilateral relations, including in the trade and economic sphere, according to the Belarusian ministry’s press office.

Under discussion also was Belarus’ dialogue with the European Union, cooperation between Belarus and Germany within international organizations and “other issues of mutual interest,” the press office said.

The consultations helped outline “a number of specific steps to further develop Belarusian-German cooperation.”

The Belarusian ministry’s delegation to the talks was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Varanetski.

Trade between Belarus and Germany totaled $2.2 billion from January through September of this year, down by 18.3 percent compared with the same period of 2008. Belarus’ exports fell by 0.4 percent to $634 million and imports dropped by 24 percent to $1,534 million. //BelaPAN
