Rescuers practice response to emergencies at training ground in Minsk region

Belarus’ emergency management crews on February 26 practiced their response to fires and other emergencies.

The exercise was held at a training ground in the Barysaw district, Minsk region, as part of a joint project of the Belarusian emergency management ministry and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation that provides various kinds of assistance to the country to improve its management of emergencies.

The heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Belarus were invited to the event.

Emergency Management Minister Enver Baryyew told BelaPAN that fires cause the most serious concern for rescuers. “They continue to occupy the first place among man-made accidents, followed by road traffic accidents,” he said. “Several thousands of road traffic accidents have to be managed by rescuers annually.”

Every effort is made to provide rescuers with necessary equipment and improve their skills, the minister noted.
