Court officers raid Andzelika Borys’ apartment in Hrodna

Officers of a district court in Hrodna on April 6 raided the apartment of Andzelika Borys, leader of the Warsaw-backed “unofficial” Union of Poles in Belarus (UPB), to make an inventory of her belongings that would be seized if she failed to pay fines that had been imposed on her.

On February 5, Ms. Borys was fined 4.2 million rubels ($1,400) as the head of Polonica, a Hrodna-based firm, for alleged violations of tax regulations. In addition, on February 15, the 36-year-old Borys was sentenced to a fine of 1,050,000 rubels ($350) for participation in an unsanctioned demonstration staged in Hrodna five days before.

As Ms. Borys told BelaPAN, the list of items to be seized from her included a laptop, a music system, a microwave oven, a home telephone set, an electric heater, and PVC windows that were yet to be installed.
