Belarusian and Russian gay rights activists have appealed to Alyaksandr Lukashenka to sanction a gay parade in Minsk on May 15.
The activists ask Mr. Lukashenka to officially recognize the International Day Against Homophobia and interfere with the handling of their application for the parade that they submitted to the Minsk city government two months ago.
The 2010 Slavic Gay Parade is aimed at raising the public awareness of discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, Syarhey Androsenka, one of the organizers, told BelaPAN.
