Stefan Fule, the European Union's commissioner for enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, said on Friday that he had arrived in Belarus "with concrete proposals and good ideas."
Speaking in an interview with Belarusian Television at Hotel Europe, the commissioner warned that the extent of Belarus' participation in the Eastern Partnership would depend on how the country respected the fundamental values of the program, including rule of law, good governance, democracy and human rights.
If Belarus makes progress on human rights and democracy, the EU will be ready to offer more specific support to the country, Mr. Fule said.
The Russian-educated Czech politician also commented on last month's gas dispute between Belarus and Russia that led to brief reductions in gas deliveries to some EU countries.// BelaPAN.
