This year has seen rise in foreign investors’ activity, official says

This year has seen a rise in foreign investors’ activity in Belarus, Viktar Kavalenka, director of the National Investment Agency, told reporters in Minsk on Friday, as quoted by BelaPAN.

“If the investor had felt problems in our country, there would not have been a surge in the investment activity on the part of foreign investors,” Mr. Kavalenka said, linking this to Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s August 6, 2009 presidential edict titled, “On the Creation of Additional Conditions for Investment Activities in the Republic of Belarus.”

According to Mr. Kavalenka, as many as 160 investment agreements of various levels have been signed since of the beginning of the year, which he said suggests that “the system works.”

Foreign investors are actively interested in all sectors of the Belarusian economy, Mr. Kavalenka noted. “It’s true that investors’ sphere of interest extends to the absolutely entire spectrum,” he said. “Especially large investments have lately been made in farming, in particular dairy farming and cheese making.”
