Moscow expresses anger over attack on embassy in Minsk

The Russian foreign ministry has expressed anger over Monday's firebomb attack on the country's embassy in Minsk, BelaPAN reports.

A diplomat's car was burned down after a bottle of flammable liquid was hurled into the territory of the embassy at around 10 p.m.

In a statement on August 31, the ministry described the attack as an "outrageous act behind which one can see the intention by certain forces to hamper the embassy's normal operation and add elements of mistrust and tension to bilateral relations."

Moscow insists on a "prompt and thorough investigation of all circumstances of the incident," the statement said.

The ministry expressed hope that Belarus' law enforcement agencies would take "all necessary measures to prevent similar attacks in the future."

The Belarusian foreign ministry expressed "concern and indignation" over the incident.
