Monday's firebomb attack on the Russian embassy may have been aimed at "destabilizing" the diplomatic mission's operation and adding tension to Belarusian-Russian relations, Vadim Gusev, a spokesman for the embassy, told BelaPAN.
Mr. Gusev said that he could not find any logical explanations for the incident and noted that "no one has claimed responsibility" so far.
He would not comment on speculation by some pro-government experts that the incident may have been orchestrated by Russia's secret services.
Mr. Gusev said that the embassy was operating as usual but security at the diplomatic mission had been tightened.
