The National Olympic Committee (NOC) on August 31 hosted a ceremony to honor Belarus' Youth Olympics team that won six medals, one gold, four silver and one bronze medal, in the first Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore between August 14 and 26, BelaPAN reports.

Sports and Tourism Minister Aleh Kachan, Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s sports and tourism aide Ihar Zaychykaw and NOC Deputy Chairman Syarhey Tsyatseryn took part in the ceremony.

“Apart from you making a brilliant performance, we also have seen what the Olympic Games and Olympic sports are and how prominently the Olympic movement is developing,” Mr. Zaychakaw said. “We hope that your invaluable contribution will become a springboard for your further sports career and a spur in the development of your skills.”

Mr. Kachan added: “You have reached the summit of Olympus. We hope that your talents will open up more.”

Archer Anton Karowkin won Belarus’ first medal at the Games. In duo with Italian Gloria Filippi he won the gold.
