Denmark is interested in developing not only economic but also trade and political cooperation with Belarus

Denmark is interested in developing not only economic but also trade and political cooperation with Belarus, Danish lawmaker Eva Kjer Hansen said in Minsk on September 8 while meeting with Viktar Huminski, deputy chairperson of the House of Representatives, as quoted by BelaPAN.

Ms. Hansen, chairperson of the Foreign Policy Committee of Denmark’s People's Assembly (Folketing), said that she was very glad to have the opportunity to visit Belarus and hold meetings, including with members of the House of Representatives. Such meetings are very important for developing cooperation between Belarus and Denmark, she said. Denmark is interested in any information about Belarus and its decision-making practices and believes that such meetings contribute to democratization, she said.

It is very important to discuss the framework for Belarusian-Danish cooperation, Ms. Hansen said, adding that her country was "interested in it and open to it."

Ms. Huminski, for his part, said that Belarus was "always ready for dialogue."

"We welcome the decision by the Danish parliament to visit Belarus," he said. "The parliaments of our countries have good relations. This should be the case, as we're in nearly the same region, the Baltic Sea region, and have many common interests."

Mr. Huminski expressed hope that the visit would help the two countries develop their partnership in different areas. "We know that Denmark has a highly developed economy," he said. "I think that during the visit you will see that Belarus has done a lot in terms of economic development."
