Belarusian midfielder Anton Putsila has asked his new club SC Freiburg to choose the Belarusian spelling of his last name, newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung reported, as quoted by BelaPAN.
The soccer star, who has just joined the German club from Dinamo Minsk, had "Putsilo" written on his jersey, an incorrect spelling both in Belarusian and Russian, when he played for Hamburg SV in 2007 and 2008.
SC Freiburg have already agreed to the 23-year-old's request.
Belarus' best-known soccer player, Alyaksandr Hleb, has always had his last name spelled on jerseys in Belarusian.
