Presidential elections should be open and democratic, lower chamber chairman says
Belarus' coming presidential elections should be open and democratic, Uladzimir Andreychanka, chairman of the House of Representatives, said at the lower chamber's session on September 14, BelaPAN reports.
He said that lawmakers faced much work both in the legislature and in their constituencies "to ensure that the presidential elections are open, democratic and in full compliance with the constitution."
Mr. Andreychanka described the lower chamber's extraordinary session, at which the 2011 Budget Law was approved and the elections called for December 19, as "short but very important in terms of the scale of the considered issues."
The chairman of the lower chamber noted the Budget Law's "high quality" and said that its approval "will help considerably strengthen the legal foundations of the policy conducted in the country to liberalize the economy, free business initiative and secure an efficient post-crisis development."
