Lukashenka pins «high hopes» on Poland's new president
Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he pinned high hopes on Poland’s new President Bronislaw Komorowski, describing the potential of the bilateral relations as huge, BelaPAN said.
“The time of missed opportunities remained in the past,” the Belarusian leader’s press office quoted him as saying in an interview with Poland’s leading media outlets on November 4. “Of course, we could have closer relations despite the fact that you are part of the European Union and are restricted by some things such as EU regulations. I understand this. But still we have a broad field of action. We don’t have some political agreements, but it is not important. Neither are some differences and half-words at the level of government officials. The border between Poland and Belarus is not a wall."
Mr. Lukashenka said that he hoped that the new Polish president would shape his policies independently and “look at things openly.”
Addressing to the Polish journalists, he said: “It would be nice if your policy regarding us were based on not only information supplied by oppositionists but also your own visits [to Belarus] and findings.”
