Housing completed in first 11 months said to have accounted for 60.9 percent of target for 2011
A total of 4,566,900 square meters of housing was completed in Belarus in the first 11 months of 2011, which accounted for 60.9 percent of the target for the year (7.5 million square meters), said the National Statistics Committee (Belstat).
According to Belstat, 16.4 percent more housing was built in the same period of 2010.
Housing totaling 978,900 square meters, or 72.5 percent of the target for the year, was built in the Minsk region; 822,700 square meters, 66.9 percent, in the Brest region; 603,000 square meters, 63.5 percent, in the Hrodna region; 693,400 square meters, 62.7 percent, in the Homyel region; 409,700 square meters, 59.6 percent, in the Vitsyebsk region; and 390,400 square meters, 45.9 percent, in the Mahilyow region. A total of 678,800 square meters of housing, or 56.6 percent of the target for the year, was reportedly put into service in the city of Minsk.
A total of 2,951,400 square meters of housing was built in the 11 months for individuals on waiting lists for better housing conditions. In particular, apartments totaling 2,218,200 square meters were built for such individuals in cities, which was 88.6 percent of the overall amount of apartment housing built in cities in the first 11 months, whereas the share projected for the year is 80 percent.
A total of 1,129,100 square meters of housing was completed in rural areas, or 24.7 percent of the total amount, down from 25.8 percent in the same period of the previous year.
According to Belstat, housing construction expenses in the 11 months totaled 13.2 trillion rubels ($1,536.7 million at the "official" exchange rate). In addition, 2.8 billion rubels was spent on the construction of engineering and transport infrastructure, or 62.2 percent of what is projected for the year. //BelaPAN
