Government set to build 4.2 million square meters of housing this year
The Council of Ministers has issued a directive that provides for building a total of 4.2 million square meters of housing in Belarus in 2012.
Under the directive, 2,310,000 square meters of housing is to be built for individuals on waiting lists for better housing conditions.
A total of 2,349,000 square meters of housing is to be completed in cities and 1,035,000 square meters in rural areas.
Housing totaling 720,000 square meters is projected to be built in the Minsk region, 610,000 square meters in the Brest region, 570,000 square meters in the Homyel region, 520,000 square meters in the Hrodna region, 400,000 square meters in the Vitsyebsk region, 380,000 square meters in the Mahilyow region, and one million square meters in the city of Minsk.
Deputy Prime Minister Anatol Kalinin said late December that housing totaling 5.5 million square meters was expected to be completed in Belarus in 2011, which was two million square meters, or 24 percent short of the target for the year.
Housing completed in Belarus in 2010 reportedly totaled 6,700,100 square meters, 3.7 percent short of the target. //BelaPAN
