Three opposition activists arrested near Minsk, expected to stand trial
Three activists of an opposition group called European Belarus were arrested in Dzyarzhynsk, a city some 30 kilometers southwest of Minsk, on February 11.
Alyaksandr Tarnahurski, Anatol Zhuletnikaw and Uladzimir Dzenisevich were stopped by traffic police officers as they were trying to display a banner that read, “Freedom to Byalyatski!”
Shortly afterward, more police arrived at the scene. They pushed Mr. Dzenisevich down to the ground and kicked him several times. The activists were not allowed to use mobile phones.
The trio were brought to the Dzyarzhynski district police department. They were likely to be charged with a civil offense and held in a local detention center until their trial on February 13. //BelaPAN
