After Belarus’ nuclear power plant is put into operation, the conditions for trade in electricity between Belarus and Lithuania will become more advantageous, Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadzyuk told Lithuanian journalists in Astravets, Hrodna region, where a public hearing on the expected environmental impact of the plant was held on Saturday.

“We are already cooperating with the Lithuanian power authorities, supplying electric power to each other,” Mr. Mikhadzyuk said. “In case of an emergency, we supply Lithuania with electricity under an agreement on mutual assistance, although in small amounts. When the nuclear power station is put into operation, electricity in the Republic of Belarus will become cheaper. The station is primarily intended for the Belarusian consumer, but it will function as part of the common power supply system and therefore the conditions for bilateral trade between our countries will be more advantageous.” //BelaPAN
