A 24-hour mandatory course called Ideology Basics will be introduced in all Belarusian schools of higher learning in the second semester this academic year, a source in the education ministry told BelaPAN.
Lecturers for the course have been trained at the Management Academy of the President and the National Higher School Institute of the Belarusian State University.
Textbooks entitled "Basics of Ideology of the Belarusian State" are to be printed in the near future. The content of the textbook will be selected by the special commission from among eight works.
Education ministry officials say that students need the course to be able to make a career in the government.
The ideology course has been elaborated by an order of Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko who said last spring that "a young independent nation" like Belarus needs ideology as "an immune system that safeguards society against internal and external threats."
