Belarusian bagpipe festival held in Minsk

A Belarusian bagpipe festival was held at a park in Minsk on Wednesday, bringing together folk and rock bands.

The audience was treated with a mix of Belarusian, Scottish, Swedish and Latvian music.

Performing were Stary Olsa, Znich, Litsvintrol, Testamentum Terra and others.

The first Dudarski Fest was stage in Belarus in the 1990s. After a break, the festival returned.

Dzmitry Sasnowski, leader of the folk band Stary Olsa and the festival’s producer, told BelaPAN that this year’s event featured many new ideas.

“For the first time this old instrument was combined with electronic music,” he noted. “For the first time we held four concerts as part of the festival, with rock music accounting for the largest section of them. For the first time we organized a scientific conference on the Belarusian pipe and a chamber concert.”

The festival has bright prospects, Mr. Sasnowski said. “We will continue to live, create works and work,” he added.
