Lukashenka plans to attend Astana summit, spokesman says
Alyaksandr Lukashenka plans to attend a summit of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), which is to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, on July 4 and 5, Pavel Lyohki, head of the presidential press office, told BelaPAN on Friday.
A final decision on Belarus' participation in a customs union with Russia and Kazakhstan is expected to be made in the framework of the meeting.
If Russia abolishes its customs duty on petroleum products supplied to Belarus, Minsk will immediately sign all documents necessary for joining the customs union, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka told reporters at the National Assembly on Wednesday.
“If it doesn’t, we’ll wait; we have reserves,” Mr. Syamashka said. “You’ll receive answers to all your questions on July 4 and 5.”
