Opera and ballet festival kicks off in medieval castle in Nyasvizh

An opera and ballet festival kicked off Friday at the 16th-18th century Radziwill Castle in Nyasvizh, Minsk region.

Soviet-Belarusian composer Uladzimir Soltan’s production of The Wild Hunt of King Stakh was performed in the inner court of the castle on the first day of the festival.

The three-day event will wrap up with a gala evening of artists of the Minsk-based National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.

The open-air classical music festival at the medieval castle that belonged to the Belarusian noble Radziwill family is being held for the second consecutive year.

Uladzimir Hrydzyushka, director of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, said at the opening ceremony that the event was above all intended for locals. “Only 10 percent of the tickets were bought from the Theater’s box offices. Residents of Nyasvizh and neighboring localities [bought] the rest,” he said.
