Population of Belarus decreased by 3,100 in first quarter of 2013


The population of Belarus totaled 9,460,700 people as of April 1, 2013, or 3,100 less than on January 1, reported the National Statistical Committee (Belstat).

As many as 28,051 children were born in the country in the first three months of the year, 1,024 more than in the first quarter of 2012, and a total of 33,617 people died, 840 more.

The number of new marriages reportedly increased by 49.4 percent year-on-year, while the number of divorces decreased by 9.5 percent. There were 530 divorces per 1000 new marriages compared with 875 in the first quarter of 2012.

The country’s net migration inflow increased by 45.1 percent to total 2,418, offsetting 43.4 percent of the natural population decline against 29 percent in January-March 2012, Belstat said. //BelaPAN
