World hockey championship in Minsk may be insured for €60 million

The 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship in Minsk may be insured for €60 million, Yawhen Vorsin, chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, told reporters on Tuesday.

Commenting on Alyaksandr Lukashenka's September 13 edict that ordered the championship directorate to secure insurance against losses that may be caused by the possible removal of the tournament from the country or a boycott of the event, Mr. Vorsin said that it was a standard procedure done before every world championship.

He said that the exact amount of the insurance cover was still under consideration.

European companies are normally selected to provide insurance cover for world hockey championships, but Belarus has been allowed by the International Ice Hockey Federation to buy a policy from a Belarusian insurer. //BelaPAN
