Security drill causing queues near sports facilities in Minsk
People attending sports events in Minsk are facing long searches as law-enforcement agencies are holding a security drill that will last until February 7.
Participants at the drill are required to find mock explosive devices.
On Friday and Saturday, security was beefed up at the National Center for Olympic Tennis Training, with fans having to queue outside the building despite bitter cold and piercing wind as security guards searched everyone ahead of Davis Cup games.
On Friday, hockey fans and journalists were thoroughly searched before being allowed into Chyzhowka Arena to watch a clash between Yunost Minsk and Nyoman Hrodna.
On Wednesday, hundreds of people missed the beginning of a Kontinental Hockey League game between Dinamo Minsk and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl at Minsk Arena because of rigorous screening procedures. //BelaPAN
