Belarus’ major state-run banks have tightened up restrictions on ATM foreign cash withdrawals abroad for their customers amid the current shortage of foreign exchange in the country, BelaPAN said.

On April 14, Belarusbank slashed the daily maximum amount of foreign cash available to its customers holding debit cards and international multi-currency credit cards from ATMs abroad to $200.

The bank also suspended foreign cash withdrawals from Belarusian-rubel accounts, as well non-cash foreign currency transactions for holders of debit cards at ATMs in Belarus.

Belahraprambank tightened its daily foreign cash withdrawal limits from $500 and $1000 to $300 for holders of Belarusian-rubel cards staying abroad.

Belinvestbank set a new daily foreign cash withdrawal limit at $500, calculated at the official rate of the National Bank of Belarus, for holders of Belarusian-rubel cards abroad. It also set a limit at $700 for non-cash foreign currency transactions.

A number of other banks have suspended ATM foreign cash withdrawals abroad altogether.
