Post-election protesters with 15-day terms released from jail
People who were sentenced to 15 days in jail for participation in the December 19 post-election protest in Minsk were freed on Monday, BelaPAN said.
More than 100 protesters were expected to be released that day from the detention centers on Akrestsina Street and Francisak Skaryna Street in Minsk, and a detention center in Zhodzina, Minsk region.
People were released in such a way that their relatives and friends could not meet and greet them at the jail gate. Those being freed from the detention center on Akrestsina Street were driven away in police vehicles and prisoner trucks.
“Sixteen people were released in the morning and, according to the list, 33 more people must be outside today,” a volunteer who said her name was Yulya told BelaPAN. “We keep watching here, waiting for those released with cars, but we don’t know whether anyone will go out of the gate.”
