Books devoted to Belarusian writer Karatkevich presented at Minsk Book Fair

Three new editions devoted to renowned Belarusian writer Uladzimir Karatkevich (1930-84) were presented at the Eighth Minsk Book Fair that opened in the Belarusian capital city on February 9.

The books were published on the occasion of the writer`s 80th birthday anniversary.

“I am grateful to the Litaratura and Mastatstva publishing house,” said Adam Maldzis, a literature professor who authored one of the books, "The life and rise of Uladzimir Karatkevich. The portrait of the writer and man." “This is the first book about Karatkevich that hasn`t been disturbed by a single censor. Only I censored it. I deliberately left out all stories about women because I think that they were the writer’s private affair. But it is true that they could have made the book much more attractive today.”

Another new edition features a collection of Karatkevich’s well-known and little known works.

“There are autographs of verses that were never printed before,” said Anatol Verabey, one of the authors of the collection. “There are also variants of works printed earlier. This is a valuable piece for a future 25-volume series that will soon come out.” //BelaPAN
