Trial of former commander-in-chief of Air and Air Defense Force to end soon
The trial of Ihar Azaronak, the former commander-in-chief of the Air and Air Defense Force, is expected to end soon, a representative of a military panel of the Supreme Court of Belarus that is hearing the case told BelaPAN.
The closed-door trial began on October 25
Mr. Azaronak is answering charges of taking a large bribe and illegally dealing with ammunition.
Mr. Azaronak’s alleged accomplice, a certain Mashkautsan, a citizen of Russia, is also on trial.
General Major Azaronak, who was arrested in December 2010, may be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
Mr. Azaronak was born in Chelyabinsk, Russia, on April 21, 1962. Alyaksandr Lukashenka appointed him commander of the Air and Air Defense Force on November 16, 2006.
