Pro-, anti-Assad demonstrators clash near Syrian embassy in Minsk

Pro- and anti-Assad demonstrations were staged in front of the Syrian embassy in Minsk on Saturday afternoon.

A group of Syrian nationals, gathered near the embassy at about 1:45 p.m. with crossed-out images of President Bashar al-Assad and signs reading “Assad, Go!”

Approximately 15 minutes later, another group of people ran up to the embassy building and staged a pro-Assad demonstration.

“Peaceful people are being killed in Syria,” a supporter of the incumbent president told reporters. “Those who are demonstrating here against Assad don’t know what is happening in the country. They are dull and insane men. They understand nothing. The president is supported by more than 90 percent of the population. We are for democracy.”

“Fifty years in power is not democracy,” replied an opponent. //BelaPAN
