Deficit of foreign trade in goods rises to $4,792 million

 

Belarus had a $4,792-million deficit of foreign trade in goods in the first 11 months of 2011 compared with $4,416.6-million in the first 10 months of the year and $8,283.6 million in the first 11 months of 2010, according to the National Statistics Committee (Belstat), BelaPAN said.

According to Belstat, in November, the deficit of foreign trade in goods increased by $375 million. The deficit increased by $902.6 million in January, more than $1 billion in both February and March, $720 million in April, $117.4 million in May, almost $600 million in June, and $376 million in October, and decreased by $150 million in July, $606.7 million in August, and $883.7 million in September.

In the first 11 months of 2011, Belarus' foreign trade in goods reportedly totaled $77,811.8 million, a 47.1-percent year-on-year increase, with exports amounting to $36,509.9 million, a 63.7-percent increase, and imports to $41,301.8 million, a 35-percent increase.

Belarus had a deficit of $7,447.3 million in trade with CIS member countries in the first 11 months of 2011, compared with $5,717.7 million in the same period of 2010. Exports rose by 44 percent to total $17,821.7 million and imports by 39.7 percent to total $22,508.9 million. Trade with CIS countries increased by 41.5 percent to total $43,090.7 million.

In the first 11 months of 2011, Belarus had a deficit of $9,386 million in trade with the other two members of the Customs Union, Kazakhstan and Russia. The deficit was $6,828.3 million in the same period of 2010. Exports totaled $13,112.9 million, an increase of 38.5 percent, and imports $22,508.9 million, a rise of 38.1 percent. Trade with the Customs Union member countries rose by 38.2 percent to total $35,621.8 million.

In particular, trade with Russia totaled $34,907.8 million, a 39.6-percent increase, with exports rising by 38.6 percent to total $12,526.9 and imports by 40.1 percent to total $22,380.9 million. Belarus had a deficit of $9,854 million compared with $6,935.9 million in the same period last year.

Trade with Kazakhstan totaled $714 million, a 5.5-percent decrease. Exports amounted to $586 million, a 35.7-percent rise, and imports to $128 million, a decrease of 60.5 percent, with Belarus having an export surplus of $458 million against $107.6 million in the same period last year.

Belarus' trade with foreign countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) totaled $34,721.1 million, a 54.8-percent increase. Exports rose by 88.1 percent to total $18,688.2 million and imports by 28.3 percent to total $16,032.9 million. Belarus had an export surplus of $2,655.3 million compared with a deficit of $2,565.9 million in the same period last year.
