Companies in China, Turkey said to be interested in building hydroelectric power plants in Belarus
Companies in China and Turkey are interested in the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Belarus, Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadzyuk told the government’s news agency BelTA on Thursday.
According Mr. Mikhadzyuk, talks are currently underway with Chinese and Turkish companies on the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the Rivers Zakhodnyaya Dzvina (Western Dvina), Nyoman (Neman) and Dnyapro (Dnieper). “The foreign investors have expressed an interest in three projects: hydroelectric power plants on the Western Dvina near Beshankovichy and Verkhnyadzvinsk, and the Nyman hydro plant,” he said.
According to earlier reports, China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC) has contracted to build a 40-MW hydroelectric power plant on the Western Dvina near Vitsyebsk on a turnkey basis. The China Development Bank is to provide $189 million for the project, which is to be completed in 2015. //BelaPAN
