Supreme Court rejects Paval Sevyarynets' appeal against «restrictive freedom» sentence

 

The Supreme Court of Belarus on January 30 rejected Paval Sevyaryents’ appeal against a "restrictive freedom" sentence imposed on him over the December 19, 2010 post-election protest in Minsk, Vadzim Mushynski, lawyer for the 35-year-old co-chairman of Belarusian Christian Democracy, told BelaPAN on Tuesday.

The lawyer said that Mr. Sevyarynets’ mother, Tatsyana, was considering filing a complaint to international institutions.

But no specific decision has yet been made regarding possible further actions, said Mr. Mushynski.

On May 16, Paval Sevyarynets, who was candidate Vital Rymashewski`s campaign manager during the 2010 s presidential race, was convicted in connection with a post-election protest staged in Minsk on December 19, 2010. A district judge found him guilty of instigating disturbances and participating in them.

Mr. Sevyarynets is serving his time in the open-type correctional institution in the village of Kuplin, Pruzhany district, Brest region.
