Two opposition youths arrested in Minsk subway
Two activists of an opposition youth group called Malady Front were arrested in the Minsk subway on the evening of April 7.
Dzmitry Kramyanetski and Mikhail Muski were waiting for a train at the Kupalawskaya station when they were ordered by two policemen to follow them to a local police station for a search, the group said. The young man had apparently come into the police’s attention because of Malady Front’s emblem on the backpack of one of them.
After the police examined the pair’s belongings, Mr. Muski attempted to walk out of the office and into a men’s room, but was forced by a policeman to the ground, kicked and handcuffed to a radiator.
Fellow Malady Front activists who arrived at the scene were told by witnesses that the pair had been allegedly arrested for pasting stickers inside the station.
The handcuffed youths were led out of the police officer at around 10:40 p.m. Footmarks were seen on their clothes.
There were unconfirmed reports that the young men had been charged with using obscene language under the Civil Offenses Code. They were likely brought to the detention center on Akrestsina Street and are expected to stand trial on the charges on Monday. //BelaPAN
