Possible return of Belarusian ambassadors to Warsaw, Brussels is under consideration, foreign ministry's spokesperson says

The possible return of the Belarusian ambassadors to Warsaw and Brussels is currently under consideration, Andrey Savinykh, spokesperson for the Belarusian foreign ministry, told reporters in Minsk on April 19.

When asked as to whether the return of European Union member states' ambassadors to Belarus was possible if the EU foreign ministers did not introduce new sanctions against Belarus at their meeting in Luxembourg on April 23, Mr. Savinykh replied, "Positions on the issue have been well expressed by both sides. Adding something new to them makes no sense."

After the European Union imposed travel bans and asset freezes on more Belarusians on February 27, Andrey Yewdachenka, Belarus’ permanent representative to the EU, and Viktar Haysyonak, the Belarusian ambassador to Poland, were recalled to Minsk “for consultations.” Simultaneously, the Belarusian authorities told the Minsk-based ambassadors of Poland and the EU to leave the country, a move that prompted the withdrawal of all other ambassadors of European Union countries from Belarus in an act of “solidarity and unity.” //BelaPAN
