Belarus can resume direct negotiations on new IMF arrangement, National Bank head says
Given the positive results of the economy’s performance and the government’s monetary policy, Belarus has the opportunity to resume direct negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a new IMF arrangement in support of the government’s economic program, Nadzeya Yermakova, head of the National Bank, said in an interview broadcast by television channel ONT on Saturday night.
Between April 18 and April 21, Ms. Yermakova, Finance Minister Andrey Kharkavets and Economy Minister Mikalay Snapkow attended the 2012 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington.
“The most important thing is that IMF experts view the current situation in Belarus as positive,” Ms. Yermakova said. “They believe the results that have been achieved in Belarus in both the economy and monetary policy and the stabilization of the national currency suggest that we took correct measures and heeded their recommendations." //BelaPAN
