United Civic Party contests selection of members for district election commissions in Hrodna region, Minsk
The United Civic Party has asked courts to examine the establishment of the district election commissions in Minsk and the Hrodna region, Lew Marholin, deputy chairman of the opposition party, told BelaPAN.
The party's complaints about suspected irregularities in the selection of members for the commissions were filed with the Hrodna Regional Court and the Minsk City Court on July 10 and 11, respectively, according to the politician.
Only one UCP member, Alyaksandr Khatskevich, was admitted to the district election commissions in Minsk, while none of UCP nominees was included in the Hrodna region's district election commissions.
"The UCP views such a decision as a violation of the constitutional right of citizens to participation in elections and discrimination against our party," Mr. Marholin said.
He acknowledged that the selection of members for the commissions was unlikely to be revised. "However, such complaints are used by us to record a discriminatory attitude toward us. Apart from this, we demand a well-founded reply to a question as to for what reason our representatives were not included in the commissions," Mr. Marholin said.
