Tennis star Azarenka earns bronze medal for Belarus at London Olympics
World No. 1 player Victoria Azarenka beat Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-3, 6-4 in the bronze medal match of the women’s tennis tournament at the London Olympics on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Azarenka, who was the top seed in the tournament, lost in the semifinals to Serena Willians of the USA, who went on to win gold.
Ms. Azarenka, who continues representing Belarus together with Max Mirnyi in the mixed competition at the Olympics, earned the fifth medal for the country at the London Games.
