Twenty-three members of Belarusian Popular Front known to have been registered as parliamentary candidates
As many as 23 members of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF) are known to have been registered as parliamentary candidates, and two are known to have been denied registration, the BPF press office told BelaPAN on Wednesday evening.
BPF Chairman Alyaksey Yanukevich and Deputy Chairmen Ryhor Kastusyow and Alyaksandr Straltsow were granted registration.
Mr. Yanukevich will be a candidate in Awtazavodskaya Electoral District No. 92 in Minsk, Mr. Kastusyow in Shklowskaya Electoral District No. 90 in Shklow, and Mr. Straltsow in Hrodzenskaya Selskaya Electoral District No. 52 in the Hrodna region.
The BPF had nominated a total of 33 people to the House of Representatives.
The BPF plans to hold a conference on September 15 to decide whether or not to withdraw its candidates from the parliamentary race. The party earlier announced that it would not participate in the elections unless its representatives were admitted to election commissions and political prisoners were released.
