Young opposition activist Vinahradaw arrested at his home
Young opposition activist Pavel Vinahradaw was arrested at his home on the morning of September 7, Andrey Dzmitryyew, deputy chairman of the "Tell the Truth!" movement, told BelaPAN.
Police officers arrived at Mr. Vinahradaw's apartment in Minsk at 7 a.m. "Pavel managed to say that he was being driven to the Maskowski district police station," Mr. Dzmitryyew said.
Mr. Vinahradaw's wife, Svyatlana, said with reference to the police officers that the 23-year-old was expected to stand trial on Friday. "I believe he will be routinely charged with disorderly conduct, with using obscene language in his own bed," she said.
In May 2011, Mr. Vinahradaw was sentenced to four years in prison in connection with a post-election protest staged in the Belarusian capital city on December 19, 2010. He was among 11 post-election protesters pardoned by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on September 14, 2011.
Since then, the young man has repeatedly been arrested for allegedly shouting obscenities in public places. He has already served a total of 40 days in jail this year.
