Pope Benedict XVI receives Vatican's envoy to Belarus
Pope Benedict XVI received Claudio Gugerotti, the Holy See's envoy to Belarus, in the Vatican on October 3.
Apostolic Nuncio Gugerotti told the pontiff about the latest developments in Belarus, according to the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus. The pope asked the envoy to pass his special blessing to Belarus' Roman Catholic faithful and entire people.
At the end of September, Msgr. Gugerotti visited correctional facilities in different parts of Belarus and met with six people widely viewed as political prisoners. Two of them, Syarhey Kavalenka and Pavel Syramalotaw, have been released since then. //BelaPAN
